Blast from the Past: The Concert for Diana (2007)

A year ago today, Princes William and Harry hosted a marathon charity concert at London’s Wembley Stadium to celebrate the birthday and the life of their late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. The shindig lasted for hours, with classic music acts loved by Diana and newer artists favored by her sons performing. Music acts were interspersed by personal memories of the Princess and special messages from her favorite charities and causes. Photographs of the Princess were featured prominently on video screens throughout the stadium, including some rare family pictures.
The concert was attended by 63,000 people. Celebrities and members (and friends) of the royal family were among the audience members, including William, Harry, Chelsy Davy, Earl Spencer and his children, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Phillips, Mike Tindall, Peter Phillips, Autumn Kelly and (notably) Kate Middleton, from whom Prince William had reportedly split in April ‘07. The event was televised live and broadcast all over the world. We’re pretty sure it was also the only time that the English National Ballet and Kanye West have ever performed at the same event (though we could be wrong, of course).
